Feudal Japan One of Many Options for the Next Assassin’s Creed

Would you like to visit feudal Japan in the next Assassin's Creed?

The Assassin’s Creed IP relies heavily upon a compelling atmosphere. It may be the single most important aspect of the franchise.

We’ve already visited Constantinople in the Middle Ages, Italy during the Renaissance (still the best), America during the Revolutionary War, and the South Seas during the golden age of piracy. Ubisoft is currently considering their next move, and one of the possibilities? Feudal Japan.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag creative director Jean Guesdon told VG24/7 that in fact, “the entire human history is our playground.” Feudal Japan is a great option, but it’s not the only one. Fans have also requested ancient Egypt, World War II, and the British Raj (colonial India). All of those have plenty of potential, but personally, I want to check out Medieval Europe with the Knights of the Round Table and all that. Another great choice would be Russia during the most turbulent tsar-driven reigns.

The environment is just SO important

I don’t really even care about the main character in this franchise. I mean, I do, but it’s hardly a priority for me. It’s definitely all about the atmosphere; if I love the backdrop, I’m much more likely to enjoy myself. Having a thing for the Renaissance period in Europe, I was definitely enthralled by the AC entries with Ezio.  Feudal Japan wouldn’t be high on my list but that’s just me.

When it comes to open-world sandbox experiences, you have to love the setting. You just do.
