Have you ever wanted to play a Final Fantasy game, but decided against it because you don’t like turn-by-turn combat? You may have your chance sooner than you think.
PD Design Studios released a gameplay video for an unofficial Final Fantasy VII remake entitled Final Fantasy VII: Re-Imagined.
The game is a side-scrolling beat ’em up that allows you to play as either Tifa or Cloud with Barret occasionally sweeping in with some extra firepower. You can play by yourself or a friend via local co-op.
The game is non-profit, fan-made project. However, with the recent announcement of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake, there is a high chance Square Enix will not allow PD Design to continue with the project.
In fact, some fans of the series are already criticizing the developers for releasing the announcement before the game itself. One YouTuber expressed her disappointment:
“I’m really curious, WHY did you guys/gals announce this? You very well know you are going to get shutdown by Square Enix. This will never get released. Why not finish it, then make a release trailer? By then it’s already out on the net and quite hard for Square Enix to stop it.”- Doom Gal
There is more information and, if you wish to check out the game yourself, a one-level playable demo on the game’s website.
