Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox. The nearly 13-year-old MMO is heading to Microsoft consoles. Fans have long speculated about whether FFXIV would ever make its way past PlayStation and PC. At no point has it made its way onto Xbox platforms since releasing in 2010, but as of today, we have official confirmation that it will, in fact, be coming to a Microsoft console for the first time. During the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival, the developer announced that finally, it will be coming out on Xbox Series X and Series S. No Xbox One release is planned.
While the larger FFXIV announcement of the day is the reveal of the upcoming Dawntrail expansion, this is something the community has been asking for since the revamp with A Realm Reborn in 2013. It’s been 11 years; it’s about time for the hit MMORPG to propagate its way off Sony platforms. And what a time for it, as Dawntrail will be bringing the first graphical enhancements to the game since its release!
Xbox Series X|S owners won’t have to wait long. While the Xbox version of the game is set to release sometime in 2024, Square Enix has also announced an open beta for it. Patch 6.5x will bring along with it an open beta for Xbox Series X and S owners, with the full release coming in spring of next year. By all accounts, the wait on both the open beta and the full release aren’t a long ways off.
Will there be more announcements during this year’s Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival? We’ll have to see, but the announcements of FFXIV: Dawntrail and the Xbox release have both been long-awaited by its players and community.
