Get ready to parry a Hadoken or two, because Ryu and Roy are joining the battle.
The latest Smash Bros for 3DS update has been decrypted thanks to Reddit user shinyquagsire23. Among other enhancement, the purpose for Update 1.06 was to prepare the game for upcoming DLC. Interestingly, sound files mentioning Roy and Ryu were found alongside those referencing Mewtwo and Lucas–two confirmed DLC characters. Mewtwo is due out as purchasable DLC on April 28th, and Lucas sometime this June. However, this is the first mention of the sword-wielding warrior and street fighter.
It’s worth noting that there is already a “Roy” in the game–Bowser Jr.’s Koopaling alternate skin. However, it is certain that these files are not related to that character, as they include the same Fire Emblem victory theme used by Marth, Ike, and Lucina.
Additionally, the tune attached to Ryu’s name is an exact match to his theme from Street Fighter II which you can listen to here.
Of course, there is a slight possibility that these are just left over files from scrapped characters. This is unlikely, though, as shinyquagsire23 states that they were nowhere to be found in his decryption of the last update (1.05).
So, are you excited that Roy might finally make a return to the series? What do you think about Ryu’s unexpected inclusion? Let us know in the comments below!
