The Long Dark, the first title by Canadian based Hinterland, is a first-person survival simulation game where you crash-land into the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest and must master basic survival skills. The reason behind the crash is that somehow, all the electricity in the world has gone out and no one knows why.
It is currently on Kickstarter with a week left to reach its goal of $200,000 CAD, and the all-star team of developers has just released the very first look at gameplay footage. The game will track various stats as you try to survive, such as body warmth, weather and temperature, time of day, hunger and thirst, energy use and consumption (stored calories and calorie burn), fatigue, and gear condition.
The Long Dark seems to me like a mixture of Don’t Starve and the TV show Revolution, but set in the Canadian wilderness with a really nice minimalist art style. This is probably because electricity no longer exists and you have to survive in the wilderness, but I think it looks like it could be a great game. I like what I see so far and I hope it gets to see a release.
What do you think? Have you already backed it on Kickstarter? Or will you now that you’ve seen the gameplay footage? Let me know in the comments below!
