Nintendo recently filed a patent for a sleep monitoring device, and it is presumed to be apart of the company’s quality of life initiative.

Information about this patent was posted in the NeoGaf forums. The image included in the patent is of great interest – it depicts a docking station device that appears to hold a mobile device of some kind.

The Internet has been speculating on exactly what the rectangular device is that’s plugged into the docking station. It could be a new Nintendo device made for quality of life, or it could simply be a smartphone.

Personally, I think it is simply a device that will come with the monitoring apparatus. If I had to guess, I would say it is a device that works exclusively with the sleep monitoring docking station.

Smaller device aside, the monitoring system as a whole will be able to sense temperature, heart rate, and other physiological information.

For now this is all we know, but stay tuned for more news on Nintendo’s foray into quality of life.
