The flagship Xbox One launch title – Forza Motorsport 5 – will require at least a one-time connection to Xbox Live before you can play.
According to Dan Greenawalt, studio head at Turn 10 Studios,
“Our production schedule is such that we are putting them in as late as possible and that means making them free as downloadable content on Day One.”
The entirety of the game will not be available on disc. Turn 10 Studios made this decision in the hopes that Forza will be a launch title for the Xbox One. Digital downloads on day one will allow for extra development time from the team.
This means you must update the game using Xbox Live to have access to cars and tracks — all of which will be free. The download contains required content for the title to run, but it will be possible to play the game while parts of it are still being downloaded.
This news comes after Microsoft back-peddled on its always-online policy for the upcoming Xbox One. Backlash came after its E3 press conference in June this year.
