From Software: Okay, Dark Souls II Might Get DLC

Despite what they said earlier, it seems DLC for Dark Souls II is a possibility.

Last year, developer From Software said they wouldn’t release downloadable content for their anticipated sequel, Dark Souls II.

However, the studio might be backtracking on that claim. As producer Takeshi Miyazoe told OXM in a new interview, there’s “definitely potential” for some extra content. The bottom line is that it’ll depend on the fans; if the community wants DLC, they might get it. Said Miyazoe:

“Again, it’s all about fan feedback. Right now we are concentrating on completing what we’ve got, but I think there are next steps on how we can expand on Dark Souls II. So I’m not really ready to say look forward to more information, but I think the potential is definitely there.”

Initially, Miyazoe said they didn’t anticipate making any DLC because they “want to deliver a full game, a full experience.” That’s an admirable statement but in this day and age, DLC is big. In fact, most gamers have come to expect it for most high-profile productions.

And it’s not like From Software hasn’t produced expansions before. They released the Artorias of the Abyss DLC for the first Dark Souls, for example.

I’d rather they stick to the “full experience” comment

I don’t really dabble in DLC. I’m one of those old-fashioned folks who still believes that when you buy a game, it should be the completed product. I’m all for expanding upon great experiences but when I’m done with a game, I’m done. That’s just me.
