Game Freak is best known for and versed in developing the Pokemon game series, but it looks like they will be moving out of their comfort zone on an unannounced title later this year judging by a mystery site bearing the developer’s name.
The site itself reads simply:
The classic/staple game played around the world will be reborn in a shocking collaboration!
Classic game? Shocking collaboration? A mysterious figure!?
There is nothing hidden in the page source, but there is one difference between what you see on the page and what is found in the source: a slight change in wording.
On the announcement above, you see the following Japanese sentence:
世界中で遊ばれているあの定番ゲームが、驚きのコラボで生まれ変わる
The classic/staple game played worldwide is being reborn in a surprising collaboration!
The actual page source reads slightly differently in two instances, both the same. The two changes are bolded:
世界中で遊ばれているあの超定番ゲームが、驚愕のコラボで生まれ変わる
The super classic/staple game played worldwide is being reborn in a startling collaboration!
Both essentially mean the same thing but the former, the one behind Mr. Light Horse up there, is a little less extreme than the text found in the source code. The text in the source seems to imply that this is a really big deal.
The change in wording isn’t important — whatever Game Freak is working on is important. There are quite a few Japanese IPs that have been made popular worldwide, but how many have horses? Horses with giant heads?
The only series that fits the giant-headed horse and classic game criteria is Harvest Moon; however it is alive and kicking and has no need to be reborn.
The .hack series could be an idea, but Grunties have much fatter snouts than the one seen above. Their tails are also much shorter.
Whatever this mystery collaboration is, it’s exciting to see Game Freak working outside of the Pokemon IP. The studio released Harmoknight in North America and Europe earlier this year, which proved to be a fun twist on the rhythm genre.
I would die for a Game Freak-made Harvest Moon game, but there are so many possibilities it is nearly impossible to figure it out without any official information.
Well, maybe not impossible. What do you think the silhouette could be? Let us know in the comments below!
