Pre-orders for next generation consoles have been flying off the shelves since E3. The PS4 has taken a lead over the Xbox One in overall sales, and GameStop is looking to increase Sony’s sales margin.
In a leaked Gamestop memo, this was announced:
PS4 Reservation New Information
Starting now, through this weekend and until further notice, Sony has allowed us to take unlimited preorders beyond your current allotments. In other-words, the flood gates are open for PS4 system reserves, we will let you know when to stop preordering based on limited quantities.
…Do NOT exceed the grand total amount that you can reserve up to on Xbox One.
In an effort to get in on the sales, they will increase the number of PS4s available to pre-order in stores. The only way they could be doing all of this is if Sony has given GameStop surplus of PS4s or this is a push to fulfill previous allocation numbers.
Things are definitely looking good for Sony. Like previous system releases before, the demand for PS4 is outpacing supplies. You might want to put in a pre-order before you are fighting tooth and nail come this holiday season.
This availability will definitely hurt Microsoft. At least in my area, nearly all Gamestops are sold out of pre- orders of the Xbox One, while PS4s are readily available. I am sure its the case in most stores around the country.
