GameStop Stops PlayStation 4 Pre-Orders

GameStop has been forced to no longer allow pre-orders of the upcoming PlayStation 4. The console is now sold out from the store both online and off.

According to an early statement by GameStop, the store’s plan was to take an “unlimited” number of PlayStation 4 preorders. This is clearly no longer possible as their stock allocation has run out. GameStop issued the following statement,

“Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4.”

Although bad news for gamers, this is good news for Sony. Both Sony and GameStop were planning to accept an unlimited amount of pre-orders. This implies that the demand for the PS4 is higher than Sony had planned or expected. Pre-orders are still available from Amazon. But in less than a day the launch day edition has already sold out, making it the best-selling console of the year.

There is no word on whether or not GameStop plans on reopening pre-orders at a later date, but they are still accepting online pre-orders from the United Kingdom.

Sony has still yet to announce a release date for the PlayStation 4, although it will most likely be sometime this November, as well as the Xbox One.
