It’s been five long years since the last Gears of War title (well, technically three, if you count prequel title Gears of War: Judgement, ). It is likely that long-time fans are particularly thirsty for the newest installment – the long-awaited Gears of War 4, which is now only a month away.
Set 25 years after the original trilogy, the evil alien race, the Locust, has been annihilated, but new problems have surfaced that have resulted in an internal conflict within the human race. Not only that but a new robotic enemy called The Swarm have also arrived. New protagonist, J.D. Fenix and his friends, Delmont “Del” Walker and Kait Diaz soon find themselves caught up in this new conflict and J.D. even ends up being reunited with his father, Marcus Fenix.
Though many of the original gameplay elements remain, Gears of War 4 will, of course, feature all new weapons and mechanics including a Combat Knife for melee attacks and new executions, a shoulder charge that can stun enemies and different weather conditions that can affect the course of a battle.
Gears of War 4 is set to be released worldwide on October 11th for both Xbox One and PC. The game will also be part of Microsoft’s new Xbox Play Anywhere scheme, making it compatible with digital cross-buys and cross-platform multiplayer.
