Looking for that epic someone
The whole thing is hush-hush, but the recent item on Epic Games Career page has game sites and gamers alike very curious.
At least two Senior Systems Designers are being hired for two new projects. One of which is “an unannounced competitive online action game that includes player progression, heavy itemization, and a dynamic economy.”
This ad is calling for seasoned, very serious and very dedicated candidates to create new generation games that have “experience and passion for building and/or playing Shooters, MMO’s, RPG’s, or RTS games.”
So, whatever this new title is, Epic is offering a pretty nice compensation package.
Epic Going More Epic?
The description of a competitive online game with progression, itemization and economy simply screams MMO. And then the request for someone with a passion for shooters and MMOs as well, seems to point to an RPG with intense combat and personalization.
The release of Gears of War: Judgement this year seems to bode that another Gears title won’t be far behind.
Judgement was more of an objective-based system that did get some criticism despite the overall positive reception.
An open world MMO would vault the franchise into new territory, but for right now this is all just speculation.
Epic Losses
It will be curious to see who responds to the Want Ad for the Senior Systems Designer positions. After all, Epic Games has lost Cliff Bleszinski (Unreal, Gears of War, Bulletstorm), former president Mike Capps, and most recent Chris Wynn has moved on to Bioware to develop the latest Mass Effect title.
Companies change staff pretty regularly, but Epic has had some… pretty epic names come through the door as well as help create them.
So, if the rumors hold and there is a Gears of Wars MMO in the works, some big names could be throwing their hats in the ring or we may see a new gaming heavy hitter get called up to the majors.
