Gears of War is getting the high-definition treatment. A remastered version is currently in production by Microsoft and U.K. studio Splash Damage (the creator of Brink) for Xbox One. The game will now have current gen visuals, and animation studio Plastic Wax will work on improving the game’s cutscenes.
The game was released in 2006 for Xbox 360 and will turn ten years old next year. The game did so well that it spawned two more installments and a prequel game. Epic Games is no longer the developer of the game series. Microsoft bought the series last year and made Black Tusk Studios the new developer.
A test build for Gears of War on Xbox One was released this past weekend and only accessible to a small amount of people. The test build features multiplayer. The following multiplayer modes are available:
- Team Deathmatch
- King of the Hill
- 1 Life 1v1 Shotgun Team Deathmatch
- 1v1 Sudden death Gnashers Only
- 4v4 Team Deathmatch Single Round
- 4v4 King of the Hill Single Round
The Xbox One version of the game will have improved lighting and texture quality. The multiplayer build runs at 60 frames per second.
