Community Manager for GamePointsNow/GameKeysNow, Chris Cook, broke the Guinness World Record for the Longest Video Game Marathon on a Football Game setting a new time of 48 hours 49 minutes 41 seconds playingFIFA 15. The marathon also raised funds for the gamer’s charity, Special Effect. Taking place from November 5th until the 6th at the Loading Bar in London, Cook played over 120 matches both online and offline. The event raised over 580 pounds ($910 USD).
I’m so glad to have raised so much for an incredible cause; but none of this would have been possible without the incredible support team of volunteers. They really kept me going throughout and I’m eternally grateful for all of their help and energy, especially when things got tough.
The event, streamed live on Twitch, featured companies like QWERTEE, Hauppauge, Boomerang Rentals, Insert Coin tees, NiftyMods and Campo Retro offering giveaways to viewers.
This isn’t the first time Chris has attempted a world record. Having had a friend attempted a similar feat for GTA IV in 2011, Cook knew how to prepare.
We also put a ban on all energy drinks and sugar until absolutely necessary. Both of these things will absolutely ruin any marathon event by either wiping you out with a sugar crash or getting you so tweaked by having to top up your levels that you feel ill.
Cook played FIFA 15 on an Xbox One controller for over 48 hours. Traveling from Birmingham to the game-themed Loading Bar in Dalston London speaks dedication and ambition. In retort to his nay-sayers, Cook stated “Most people thought I was mad. Some thought I might die (I hope not) but generally the response has been pretty positive. My son thinks it’s the coolest thing ever.” Don’t worry Chris, we think your awesome too!
Your welcome to challenge him online if you have FIFA 15 on Xbox One his gamertag is xixBlueWolfxix, or Tweet at @GameKeysNow or @TeamGPN.
Special Effect is an award-winning charity that helps people with disabilities to benefit from the fun, rehabilitation and therapy of video games. They support people of all ages through assessments, equipment loans and equipment modifications.
