This morning, Bonnie Ross, General Manager at 343 Industries, confirmed Halo 5 to have a Fall 2015 release date. The new title, Halo 5: Guardians was also confirmed.
343 Industries fully took on the franchise with the release of Halo 4 in 2012. Halo has always been a huge part of Xbox and they plan to continue making it the best they can.
Making a “Halo” game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial. It’s a task that we, at 343 Industries, are taking very seriously to ensure we deliver the “Halo” game that fans deserve, and a game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One. – Bonnie Ross
They’re taking full advantage of the Xbox One and want to use all its resources. Should we assume that it will only release on Xbox One? I think so. There’s so much work being done on the game and it focuses on the Xbox One. You can view the full announcement at Xbox.com
The Halo tv series also launches in 2015. This leaves the question, what’s coming out this year?
Last year at E3, Bonnie Ross said our “journey” would begin in 2014 with a “giant leap, rather than one small step.” Something big is obviously coming out this year, but it isn’t Halo 5. We’ll have to wait until June 9th for more details at E3 this year.
UPDATE: The first piece of concept art was released by Frank O’ Connor, Franchise Development Director at 343 Industries. View the full post here.
UPDATE 2: New character coming to the series. Below is the tweet from Josh Holmes.
For everyone speculating about the mysterious Spartan in Halo 5: Guardians, he’s not Palmer (or Cortana!). He’s a NEW character. 🙂 #Halo
