Hanako - Soul of the Samurai made waves at MomoCon with a playable demo and is on track to release late 2016 or early 2017.

Since I last spoke with the co-founders of Hanako – Soul of the Samurai at SIEGE 2015, they’ve made significant progress on their game. The team’s win at SIEGE’s Investor Conference provided the push they needed to really step up their development — They made the top 3 for indie games in Georgia at MomoCon’s Indie Showcase!

At MomoCon 2016 Hanako had a playable demo with 3 maps, including a playable prototype of its Tug of War campaign. In this campaign, players  fight their way to the enemy’s castle and kill the leader to win. Until this prototype, all demos had only featured the Hanako clan. The Hanako clan is represented by cherry blossoms, signifying hope and purity, while the Yamai clan operates in a burned and broken landscape, symbolizing disease.

The guys also introduced the ninja class specifically for MomoCon! The ninja’s main weapon is a sickle and chain, which allows him to grapple.

The Hanako team is currently working on the development of a Capture the Informant map and a Hanako clan village map.

Co-founder Matt Canei says that they are still on track to release their game in Steam Early Access late 2016 or early 2017, with planned DLC coming later. Two female classes will be released in October of the launch year in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, the onna-bushi (woman warrior) and the kunoichi (assassin). Additional DLC classes will include the ronin and a warrior monk.
