Hoenn Takes the Spotlight in New Pokemon GO Event

Pokemon GO is counting down to the Kanto Tour, with a Hoenn spotlight coming up soon.

The Hoenn region is Pokemon GO‘s next stop on the countdown to the Kanto Tour. From January 19 at 10 a.m. local time through January 24 at the 8 p.m. local time, trainers can look forward to a number of Hoenn-themed Pokemon GO events, from Field Research tasks to legendary Pokemon and more.

Many iconic Hoenn Pokemon will appear more often during the event, including these:

  • Treecko
  • Torchic
  • Mudkip
  • Taillow
  • Loudred
  • Nosepass
  • Aron
  • Meditite
  • Roselia
  • Carvanha
  • Numel
  • Baltoy

Raids get a Hoenn makeover for the event. One star raids include:

  • Treecko
  • Torchic
  • Mudkip
  • Ralts
  • Aron
  • Bagon

Three star raids feature:

  • Grumpig
  • Breloom
  • Mawile

And five star raids are where players can catch Hoenn’s two flagship legendary Pokemon, Kyogre and Groudon.

The starters, Plusle, Minun, Wailmer, and Aron are the focus of special Field Research tasks, and the event also includes some Timed Research tasks revolving around Kyogre and Groudon. Completing the Timed Research tasks unlocks an encounter with a Rayquaza that knows Hurricane and may be Shiny Rayquaza.

Finally, any Metang that evolve (into Metagross) during the event will learn Meteor Mash, a move that was once a Community Day exclusive.

Johto takes the spotlight after Hoenn leaves, so stay tuned for more Pokemon GO news.
