A whimsical world focused on flying around and having fun.
Welcome to the world of Hohokum. A game filled with colorful creatures and abstract environments, Hohokum will have you immersed in worlds coming straight from an artist’s imagination. This game is being developed by Sony Santa Monica and London-based studio Honeyslug, in partnership with artist Richard Hogg.
During the E3 2013 stage demo of Hohokum, we got a better look at what this game has to offer. Players will be in control of the “Long-Mover,” a worm-like creature that flies swiftly around the game’s environments. At first glance, it’s difficult to tell what you’re supposed to do, but that’s part of the game’s mechanics.
Discovery is essential in Hohokum’s gameplay.
Because players are never told what to do, it will enable them to explore the interactions meant to be discovered in each of the worlds. Video shows the Long-Mover flying around a ferris wheel at a carnival as well as illuminating a myriad of vibrant sphere’s scattered throughout the game’s sky. The environments are designed to be very reactive to the Long-Mover’s movements.
There is no such thing as failure in Hohokum.
You will solve puzzles as you fly throughout the levels, but you will never lose the game. Players are meant to be immersed in the colorful worlds to reveal new elements through exploration, and from this simple mechanic, Hohokom’s designers state that players will feel “pleasantly surprised” as they see new things happen. It is truly meant to be a delightful and relaxing experience!
Hohokum is a Playstation exclusive that will be available for the PS4, PS Vita, and PS3 in 2014. What are your thoughts about this whimsical game?
