While at PAX East 2015 we had some time to catch up with HyperX and learn about what is happening on the HyperX front. At a high level, HyperX has been expanding their line of RAM-related products into peripherals and is working to further anchor their product line’s branding. What is emerging is a well rounded product line for gamers aligned along three price and feature points. Though the entire product line has not been aligned yet, I expect more to come.
HyperX has created three product lines: Fury, Savage, and Predator. Each series now has RAM modules as RAM is HyperX’s bread and butter, but we should see an SSD, USB drive, and (my gut says) other peripherals will align under these names and sensibilities in the future.
FURY Series
The FURY series features auto-overclocking up to 2666MHz DDR4 running at 1.2V. The FURY line comes in multiple colors Black, Blue, Red, and White so that it can more easily match other components in the system. The FURY series supports 2133MHz, 2400MHz, and 2666MHz with CAS latencies from CL14-CL15.
SAVAGE Series
The SAVAGE series is BIOS overclockable featuring frequencies of 1600MHz, 1866MHz, 2133MHz, and 2400MHz. The line has CAS latency from CL9-CL11. The SAVAGE series features the HyperX red color and asymmetrical heat spreaders. The SAVAGE series is XML ready.
PREDATOR Series
The top end PREDATOR series features DDR4 with frequencies of 2133MHz, 2400MHz, 2666MHz, 2800MHz and 3000MHz with CAS latency from CL12-CL15. The PREDATOR line is optimized for the X99 chipset with XMP profiles.
In addition to RAM, HyperX has 120GB and 240GB SSD drives priced at $67.99 and $133.80 on Newegg. The FURY SSD drive features SandForce SF-2281 controllers with SATA Rev 3.0 (6Gb/s) performance. The HyperX SSD drive is not the highest performance out there, but just bout any SSD beats a rotational drive and pricing is competitive.
The sums up the news from HyperX as they work to round out both branding and gamer focused product line. HyperX is positioning themselves to have the critical items a gamer building a new system will need as well as providing key upgrades like SSDs or more common purchases such as headsets and mouse pads. Keep your eyes out for our future headset roundup article which will include reviews of the HyperX Cloud II headset.
