The Amiibo toy line from Nintendo will do more than just sit and look pretty in your desk. By the information released during the most recent Nintendo Direct, the Amiibo will have interaction with several Nintendo games, like Capatin Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Kart 8, and Super Smash Bros. One that you might not know about is the interaction between the Amiibo and Hyrule Warriors.
The Amiibo interaction will be added with a system update in November. Getting your hands on the Link Amiibo figure and connecting it to the game will unlock the Spinner weapon from Twilight Princess. The Spinner was used in the Arbiter’s Grounds to get around the dungeon and fight the boss, Stallord.
It appears that the Spinner will be a useful weapon in Hyrule Warriors because it can be used to attack a large group of enemies (only type of enemy group Hyrule Warriors has). All the other Amiibo will be able to interact with Hyrule Warriors by unlocking random weapons, items, or rupees.
Nintendo wants to get their Amiibo response to Skylanders and Disney Infinity out before Thanksgiving and that’s just what they’re going to do, with a Nov. 21st release.
That date coincides with the Smash Bros release so gamers can kill two birds with one stone, grabbing both the game and an Amiibo figure. The main features of the Amiibo will be to store data like fighter status in Smash Bros but Amiibos may also feature more unlockables like the Hyrule Warriors/Link interaction.
If that’s the case, then they would add tons of replay value to games because fan favorite characters could be given the Amiibo treatment and brought back into franchises, like Donkey Kong Jr in Mario Kart and Ice Climbers/Pokémon Trainer in Smash Brothers. The idea of unlockable data just opens a huge new window for fans to wish for their franshise favorites brought back.
