I Am Setsuna, published by Square Enix and developed by Tokyo RPG Factory, is setting itself up to be the modern return to the classic staples of the RPG genre. (Well, not just RPG, but more specifically JRPG.) Boasting a continuation of the distinction reminiscent of JRPG masterpieces, and citing Chrono Trigger as an inspiration, Tokyo RPG Factory’s story-driven game is something meant to be impactful and meaningful to those who play it.

The developer has managed to acquire some notable talent, featuring character designs by Toi8, a notable Japanese artist whose portfolio includes that of Attack on Titan, Full Metal Alchemist, and even the 2012 .hack// movie, as well as work from Randy Kerber and Tomoki Miyoshi.

A specific release date for the English version of the game has been announced for July 19th, 2016. Reviews for the Japanese version have been steadily positive, with scores between 80-85% praising its atmosphere, music, and steadily interesting turn-based combat. There is only criticism for a lack of ‘novelty’ in some design aspects.

So, if you’re looking for a nostalgic walk through the snow with a JRPG like the ones you used to play, check out I Am Setsuna.
