Mega Man co-creator, Keiji Inafune, announced Mighty No. 9 today at PAX Prime. The project has been submitted to Kickstarter and has over $22,000 and 372 backers and those numbers are rising as you read this! Inafune and his team are asking for a total of $900,000 and, at this rate, I’m sure they will get funded.
Mega Man is a classic and I don’t think I’ve met anyone who hasn’t played or watched the game. This new game from Inafune isn’t going to be a part of the Mega Man series or franchise but the similarities are so glaring that it might as well be.
On their Kickstarter page they state: “Mighty No. 9 is an all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game that takes the best aspects of the 8- and 16-bit era classics… and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input.”
So, basically it’s the new Mega Man game on steroids and I am excited to play this game. The last Mega Man game was released for PC and was called Street Fighter X Mega Man in celebration of the franchises’ 25th anniversary. Mighty No. 9 is also being developed for the PC through Steam but Inafune says that they might be able to expand to other platforms in the future.
The estimated release date for Mighty No. 9 is spring of 2015.
