Ed Boon, Creator of Injustice, announced on his Twitter yesterday that they would be announcing a brand new DLC character over the weekend at the Evolution Championship Series. The fighting game tournament known as EVO will feature Injustice as one of its selection of games for players to compete in. The game already has a bit of controversy around it, with many fans calling for a ban on one of the game’s other DLC characters, Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion. Perhaps Boon is hoping to get back in the fans’ good graces by announcing a new DLC character at the tournament that has already sparked some controversy towards his game.
Injustice: Season 2?
There has already been much speculation in the Injustice fan community about a fith DLC character, or even the possibility of a second Season Pass for the game, which would include four more characters. Much of this speculation has been caused by Ed Boon himself, as he is notorious for teasing fans with his twitter page. He also posted a poll after the second DLC character was released, asking fans who they’d most like to see as DLC down the road. Martian Manhunter won the poll by a fairly hefty margin, and many fans expect this weekend’s reveal to finally be the green alien himself.
If fan speculation is true and this leads to a second season of DLC, this would make Injustice a pioneer of new DLC territory. While the Season Pass model for DLC has been around a while, no game has had more than one season of DLC. If Injustice announces one now, it will be a first for gaming at large, and possibly an unpopular move. While nothing is confirmed beyond the announcement of a singler character this weekend, it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.
