Intellivision Entertainment’s upcoming micro-console, the Intellivision Amico, is set to be revealed to the public for the first time behind closed doors at this year’s E3.
This will likely reveal a much more finalized design for the system than has been seen up until now, and according to a recent Intellivision Subscriber Newsletter, the company intends to show off 22 different games at the event to showcase the anticipated variety of the console’s library.
The newsletter statement made by company CEO Tommy Tallarico explains in some detail what the plan for the console is for the future, and how the company intends to showcase this road-map at E3, describing a “4-pronged approach” to the console’s launch library. Supposedly the launch library will be composed of:
- 25% Classic/Retro: Re-imagined and upgraded favorites (including graphics, audio, modes and of course local Co-Op & Versus modes!)
- 25% Original IP’s: Brand new games that no one has ever experienced and that shows off the fact that Amico has both a touch screen and tactile controls in a multiplayer environment.
- 25% Sports/Recreation: Not only the sports everyone would expect, but also a lot of casual and recreational sports like bowling, shuffleboard, pool, darts, fishing, etc.
- 25% Board/Dice/Card/Word/Puzzle Games: Something that most non-hardcore gamers will feel comfortable with and can play with their family & friends.
Perhaps we’ll hear more details about the previously announced Earthworm Jim sequel, which promises to bring back the original design team.
It’s unclear whether the company’s recently announced exclusive Eartworm Jim sequel will be part of this anticipated launch library, though it is possible that these details will be revealed to the press at the actual event next week.
Whatever the case, perhaps some clarity and a clear demonstration of what the Amico can do and what Intellivision’s plan is for the system will create more excitement for the system’s upcoming release in 2020.
