When Square dropped IO Interactive last May, the future of the Hitman franchise was murky at best. However, it seems Agent 47’s short-lived retirement is soon to be over. Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and IO interactive announced a joint task force to reinstate one of the most prolific assassins in video gaming history.
Set to release on May 15 for the PS4 and Xbox One, Hitman: Definitive Edition will collect all of the missions from Agent 47’s 2016 Hitman operation, as well as see Game of the Year content, bonus missions, and brand-new disguises inspired by Freedom Fighters, Kane & Lynch, and Mini Ninjas.
David Haddad, President of WBIE, said he and the team are excited to bring the franchise back to fans around the world and partner with the developers at IO Interactive on such a storied franchise:
We’re very excited to be working with IO Interactive, a talented studio with a long-standing legacy creating the iconic Hitman games. The passionate global Hitman community has embraced the recent return of the series, and we’re thrilled to bring the Hitman: Definitive Edition to fans and new players next month.
As of this writing, there is no pricing information for Hitman: Definitive Edition. A full list of the content that will be bundled with the game can be found over at the official Hitman website.
Garnering an 83% rating on Metacritic, Hitman (2016) was widely praised by game critics as one of the best games of the year, with some even considering it one of the best stealth games released since 2006.
