EA announced on its forums this morning that it will shut down Facebook game SimCity Social on June 14th. The forums will also be closing on the 14th. The representative stated the game was closing in order to allocate resources to other game titles.
Spend Yer Diamonds Now
EA is encouraging players to spend their in-game Diamonds (game currency) prior to the game’s closing. Any unspent currency will be rendered invalid after the game is closed.
And while you’re at it, use your Playfish cards
Players are encouraged to redeem and spend their Playfish cash cards before the game is retired on June 14th. After that date, you will need to contact customer service regarding your Playfish cash cards. Players who need to contact customer service can do so by going to Help.ea.com and selecting Contact Us to contact Customer Service.
Parting Words
“Thank you to all of our passionate and dedicated players for supporting SimCity Social. We hope to see you in some of our other titles on Facebook and other platforms.”
Community Response
On Facebook and on the Playfish forums, responses were… Well, about what you’d expect. One of the most common sentiments expressed was shock that the game was closing so quickly.
“I was beginning to wonder why EA has won the title Worst Company in America two years in a row from the Consumerist. Now I know.”
“Another one bites the dust.”
“Not happy. I’ve spent a lot on this game and I just bought diamond vaults in the past 2 weeks and I’ve really enjoyed planning out my town. I spent money thinking that this would be of value to me. I will not be playing any of your other games if these are the kinds of stunts you pull. I’d like my money back.”
