Just before Grand Finals at this year’s Evolution Championship Series (“EVO” for short), a microphone was passed to a person from Microsoft with some special news. Encouraging the crowd to make some noise, the video reveal started with the familiar ESRB rating for the Windows 10 and Xbox One fighting game, Killer Instinct.
EVO stream viewers flooded with Twitch chat with questions. “Is it a new character?” “Which one could it be?”
Here’s a screenshot of the result and reaction:
The trailer reveal was none other than Eyedol, a new character to the Killer Instinct: Season Three roster.
A fearsome gargantuan boss of the original 1994 Killer Instinct game, Eyedol joins the ever-growing rebooted cast. In the trailer, the split-headed behemoth rushes at Kan-Ra, mercilessly pummeling him with his iconic club.
Ouch. Kan-Ra’s going to feel that tomorrow.
For those unaware, the third season of Killer Instinct includes characters such as Eyedol’s rival Gargos, Kim Wu, Tusk, Arbiter from Halo, and General Raam from Gears of War.
Earlier this month, the KI developers released a survey asking players to rate which new characters they would like to see for the future Killer Instinct cast, curiously with Eyedol as one of the choices. It is unknown what the actual results were, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Eyedol made a lot of headway in the poll.
