Square Enix has been releasing lots of remixes in the last year or so, bringing some of our favorite PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games to some of the newest systems. With the recent announcement at E3 2015 of Final Fantasy 7 getting a remake, Square Enix has shown no signs of stopping. However, despite continuous requests from fans, Square Enix has no plans to port the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD remixes to the PS4.
In an interview by Ruliweb, Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the Kingdom Hearts games, stated,
Recently, we have received a significant increase in requests for the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Remix to be released on the PS4. Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans for that.
Some fans are still fixed on the idea that the games need to be ported to the PS4, saying the glitches and load times in the original two ports are unbearable and need to be corrected. However, others say PS4 ports will never happen because of the contract Disney and Square Enix made for the two games. On a GameFaqs forum about the issue, one blogger discussed his thoughts:
Square Enix and Disney’s contract for Kingdom Hearts prohibits them from releasing the older games digitally… Sony enforces a digital policy on the PS4; it means you can’t release a physical copy of a game only.- DrStran3g3
As depressing as such news can be for Kingdom Hearts fans, at least the community knows Square Enix will be putting all of their focus into creating Kingdom Hearts 3. After all, fans have been begging for the third game’s release for much longer than they have been requesting PS4 ports.
