In what has become a trend of late, yet another group of fans is attempting to recreate a classic franchise using Unreal Engine 4. In this case, we are talking about the iconic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

The project is being lead by Poem Studios, a small indie group from Atlanta who have named their creation Knights of the Old Republic: Apeiron. They are planning a full remake of the original game, though they also plan on incorporating new planets, companions, and missions throughout.

The game with be free when it launches, but you have to own a copy of the original game in order for it to work, since it makes use of the original audio files.

Comparison of new and old environments

The Apeiron creators are currently not accepting any donations, though they may make the option available at a later time. Poem Studios also mentioned that they are currently accepting volunteers for the project and provided a method of contacting them if you are interested.

While the team is claiming that every thing they are doing is well within the law, EA might have a different take on the matter. Hopefully Poem Studios is allowed to keep up the work.

If you’d like to keep tabs on their progress, they’ll be live streaming the development process on Twitch.

Hi! My name is Nick, and I am yet another kid trying to break into the world of gaming journalism. I am currently attending grad school and pursuing my Master's in Journalism. Want to know my favorite game? It's Mass Effect, but not the third one; we don't talk about that one. I am also an avid fan of any and all board games, and you should totally try Risk Legacy; it's like regular Risk but better.
