Resident Evil 4 — the game revered as the pinnacle of the Resident Evil franchise so far — is being re-released tomorrow for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. This will help more recent console-owners experience an industry-redefining classic, and give old fans access to some golden nostalgia.
The Xbox One and PS4 editions will contain all content from previous games, most notably the ‘Seperate Ways’ bonus scenario featuring Ada Wong, which was originally tied to the PS2 release.
Before its original release in 2005 for GameCube, some fans may have doubted Capcom‘s choice to uproot the series away from Raccoon City, and been further dubious of the original casing’s insistence to ‘Forget everything you know about Resident Evil.’ However, once the wide audience got their hands on it, all doubts were revealed to be unfounded.
The new locale, enemies, controls and view perspective were all received well at the Game of the Year awards. The close over-the-shoulder camera angle contributed to the game’s tenser moments whilst also giving the player more immersion and better control of their gun-play.
This camera viewpoint we now take for granted has influenced countless 3rd-person-shooters and action games that have come since, from Batman Arkham to Gears of War.
The masterfully crafted Resident Evil 4 HD will be available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on 30th August, 2016.
