Gamescom just revealed a gameplay demo for Lego Dimensions, the newest project from TT Games and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It covers everything from the Lego bricks and how they work to the story and missions within each adventure world. Lego Dimensions is set to release on September 27, 2015 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and Wii-U.

The starter pack for the game includes Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle. These three characters are used for the main story and to gain access to the adventure worlds based upon their respective universes: DC, Lord of the Rings, and The Lego Movie. The story mode is linear, but the adventure worlds are free to explore and access in whatever order you wish.

Doctor Who, Scooby-Doo, DC, Lord of the Rings, Ghostbusters, The Lego Movie, Wizard of Oz, Back to the Future, The Simpsons, Jurassic World, Midway Arcade, Lego Chima, Lego Ninjago and Portal are currently all confirmed worlds for Lego Dimensions.

During the video, Doug Heder, the producer of WB games, stated that each adventure world is unlocked by having a character from said world. For instance, Marty McFly and Doc Brown can both give you access to the Back to the Future adventure world. Once you’re inside the world though, you can use whatever characters and vehicles you have access to. How you want to play and who you want to play as is entirely up to you.

The adventure worlds themselves include many things typical of Lego games. There are gold bricks, races, and collection quests that can all be done at your own pace. There are studs everywhere, and plenty of nooks and crannies to explore as well. With so many franchises and adventures worlds to choose from, free roam will be the biggest part of the game.
