Like a Dragon: Yakuza Heads to Prime Video in 2024
Announced on social media, Like a Dragon: Yakuza will premiere on October 24, 2024, in over 240 countries across the world. It’ll feature an original story based on Yakuza: Like a Dragon, though the specific year the series is set in hasn’t been confirmed. It will dive into elements of the story and areas that the games haven’t been able to explore, so there are sure to be game tie-ins for fans of the franchise.
Like a Dragon is a game with fighting and RPG mechanics set in modern Japan. It follows the story of talented Yakuza member Kazuma Kiryu, the various decisions he makes, and how he deals with the outcomes of his choices.
The show still takes place in gritty Kamurocho, as the writer for the games, Masayoshi Yokoyama, confirmed its appearance in a brief statement he gave concerning the project. He also stated the series will be the most objective way to experience the story and expressed his interest in watching it with other viewers across the world.
The series is directed by Masaharu Take and features fan-favorite Kazuma Kiryu, played by Ryoma Takeuchi, as the main character. Viewers may recognize Takeuchi from his role as Shinnosuke Tomari in the live-action Kamen Rider movies.
For newcomers to the series, Yokoyama states that the draw of a gritty yet realistic show will get them invested in the characters. Fans are sure to love seeing the games brought to life and the new twists the series contains.
More on the series, including other main characters and actors, may be announced between now and October. Until then, this is the perfect time to dive into the Like a Dragon franchise games.
