Long ago, Nintendo and Sony decided to attempt a partnership together. By working harmoniously they produced a SNES-CD prototype and it has finally been discovered.
Rare Images Released
A bunch of rare images have been released of this one-of-a-kind prototype, showing horizontal volume sliders and outputs in the back. Although this rare console has yellowed with age, the mysteries and questions about its production design remain.
Historically Significant
This fleeting partnership between Nintendo and Sony is very symbolic because this was a time in video game history when the intense rivalry between the two companies didn’t exist. Although this ended abruptly in 1991 at the Consumer Electronics Show, when Sony endorsed the SNES-CD with the PlayStation logo, and then Nintendo suddenly announcing a partnership with the Phillips electronics firm instead of Sony. As these actions set forth the shift in video game history, Sony went on their own without Nintendo’s guidance to produce the PlayStation.
Who found this gem?
A son of a businessman only known as his online handle, ‘Dnldbld’ found the prototype and has hopes of locating the power-supply to boot it up. It is assumed that his father had ties with the Sony executive. It is unknown at the time if he’ll be able to, but he did post the pictures and story to Reddit and Assembler Games.
What do you guys think of this one-of-a-kind prototype?
