Summer Game Fest spoke friend and let us in on the Lord of the Rings Return to Moria gameplay trailer. Originally announced at the 2022 Summer Game Fest, the dwarves are back with the first look at gameplay. Releasing Fall 2023 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, here’s what we know about the indie-developed Lord of the Rings game.
Narrated by Gimli himself, the Lord of the Rings Return to Moria trailer gives us insight into reclaiming the mines, surviving the darkness, and rebuilding Moria to its former glory. The survival game mixes combat, mining, crafting, and more, all of which we get a glimpse of. Delving through the bowels of Middle Earth to discover lost artifacts, magic items, and books that contain long-forgotten dwarven plans sounds like a dream for LotR fans, and it looks good, too.
The trailer also confirms that you’ll be able to play with up to seven other players in online co-op. And like many other survival games, you’ll be able to build a base with defenses against giant spiders, trolls, and other terrors of the caves. Will we have to fight against the Balrog, Durin’s Bane? It didn’t make an appearance in the trailer, but that doesn’t mean the firey shadow doesn’t exist deep in the labyrinth of the mines.
As a fan of survival and crafting games, I know I’ll be wishlisting Lord of the Rings Return to Moria on Steam. Stay tuned for the game’s official release date and more. Get your axes and picks ready — the dwarves are taking back their home.
