Majora’s Mask 3DS Enhancements

Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask was being released for the 3DS this upcoming spring, and the Zelda fans did not disappoint with their reaction. Youtube user ninten2tv jumped right to work, creating a comparison video between the graphics of the N64 original and the newer 3DS version.

Nintendo is keeping with the same art style as the original, but with a few enhancements. Certain scenes have better lighting on the 3DS, while still keeping the standard gloomy and creepy feel of the game. Characters, including the possessed moon, have more detail; the moon in particular has larger, bulbous features, which make it look even more insane than it was before. Gone is the Link with the rounded baby-face; instead, our hero has more angular and narrowed features, reminscent of the Kokiri.

However, don’t expect the graphic enhancements to be the only change in the game; the producer for the Zelda series, Eiji Aonuma, said that they have been working on this game since 2011. Aonuma delayed the development announcement until the Nintendo team was certain that this would be more than just another remake. The eerie atmosphere of the game will remain, enhanced with new and improved graphics, while gameplay has been engineered to be smoother than the original. As for the other changes, Nintendo will be making a statement fairly soon about what new features we can expect.

Aonuma hopes that the improved gameplay and added features will encourage more people to try Majora’s Mask. He states:

“I hope those that haven’t played the original game, and those of you that played it but gave up mid-way through will take this opportunity to give the new version a try.”

He seems excited to provide a game that holds true to the original, but is still unique in its own right.

Aonuma tells us to “Brace yourselves for what this world has to offer!” Are you ready for another Zelda game? What are you most excited to see in the Majora’s Mask remake?
