Just tonight, Nintendo held an investor conference revealing the company’s plans in the future along with the release window for Mario Kart 8. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata confirmed that Mario Kart 8 will launch for the Wii U sometime this May, both in the United States and Japan. Due to Mario Kart 7‘s few-day release gap, it is close to confirmation that Nintendo will release the game in Japan and the United States with a 2-5 day gap.
Mario Kart 8 is the latest installment in the Mario Kart series, and will contain a new mechanic which will allow players to defy gravity in their vehicles. Biking, gliding, and underwater diving are all confirmed to return as well. The game will also contain an increased focus on GamePad play, which is designed for players to start up the game quickly without their televisions.
Senior research analyst David Gibson is translating the conference into English in realtime on Twitter so America can follow the conversation as well. You can go and look at his tweets here: https://twitter.com/gibbogame
