A study published by the Association for Psychological Science found that playing games like Mario Kart boosts your visual motor skills, which are essential to driving.
For the study, researchers from New York University Shanghai and the University of Hong Kong examined 80 student and faculty participants from the University of Hong Kong, to see if video games really did improve their driving skills.
The study pitted experienced action game players (people who played video games at least 5 hours per week over the last six months) against people who do not play video games, in a driving simulator.
The results are exactly as you would expect. Experienced video game players showed a much greater ability to stay in their lanes, and steadier hands when compared to the people who did not play video games. The same results were shown when participants were asked to keep a dot in the center of the screen with a joystick.
