Despite consistent outcry from the Metroid fanbase, Metroid Prime: Federation Force just got a fixed release date by Nintendo of Europe. While Nintendo of America has yet to officially confirm a release date, Nintendo of Europe has stated that the least anticipated Metroid game will be available as of August 2nd, 2016.

Metroid Prime: Federation Force – which was announced at E3 last year – has received non-stop complaints from Metroid fans over the choice to go with a chibi art style, co-operative play, and a switch from the chief protagonist, Samus Aran, to a team of Federation Troopers. While some have actually embraced this as a fun spin-off game, the lack of a main series title has left many fans feeling betrayed.

Despite petitions and other means of formal complaints to Nintendo, it seems that Metroid Prime: Federation Force will be released whether fans like it or not. The entirety of the situation feels surreal, since you would think fans would welcome any addition to the series that isn’t an Other M remaster. Hopefully Federation Force can convince players that it isn’t the boogeyman heralding the death of the Metroid franchise, and appreciate it for what it is.
