Okay, so it’s bizarre. It also sounds like fun!
It seems Microsoft has launched a strange marketing campaign to help promote the upcoming Xbox One exclusive, Titanfall. Participating could get you a great Xbox One bundle or a variety of other awards.
First spotted at Reddit, this promotion only applies to those who are at least 18 years of age and reside in the UK. The Reddit user in question noticed that a certain Microsoft “Invitation” commercial was a little odd, as the ad stuttered and cut away to pieces of binary code. He also caught the image of a briefcase.
That code led us to several websites, including http://gl16790101.com/, which is where you’ll find the terms and conditions for the “Glitch Contest.” It began on January 23 and it’ll run through February 23. The participants “must complete the pre-determined steps that form a path with a dedicated start and end point,” reads a cryptic message.
Prizes include signed comics and artwork, the aforementioned Xbox console bundle, “14 Xbox items,” and more. Other Reddit users have tracked down several links and images that point toward Titanfall; one such find references Hammond Robotics, a fictional company in the game’s narrative.
We need more cool contests like this
Given the inherently imaginative nature of this industry, you’d think we’d see more highly creative contests. This is a very cool idea, even though it’s obviously all about promotion. I don’t mind the advertising if we get a chance to have some fun and besides, there’s a chance at some great prizes! Wish I lived in the UK. 🙁
