Midwest Game Developers Summit is a Much Needed Event

Are you a game developer but can't afford to travel to the coast? Well, there's a solution for you now.
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Every year numerous conventions are held for game developers and the like in the US. But these events and expo’s take place primarily on the West and East coasts, which poses a problem for those stuck in the middle.

Residents in the Midwest are somewhat limited when it comes to packing up everything and showing up to a game convention on either coast. There’s the logistics of moving your work equipment, lodging, all the normal expenses you’d deal with for a business trip – that bill can run well into the thousands .

To help solve this issue, a couple of people came together with the idea of having a conference – or summit if you will – for Midwest developers. Last year the Wisconsin Game Developers Summit had an excellent keynote speaker Tom Hall, creator of games like Doom and Wolfenstein 3-D. With over 300 attendees and over 40 gaming professionals as speakers last year, 2014’s summit shouldn’t disappoint.

This year instead of being funded by local schools and universities, they’ve turned to Kickstarter. If the goals are met, the name of the event will change to Midwest Game Developers Summit (MGDS). This is still the same awesome event for game developers to attend, learn, and network. You can find out more information on how to contribute by visiting the Kickstarter site. With some of the pledges being limited if not already gone, you’d better hurry and grab your spot!
