That was fast. MLG only just announced their Winter Championship, announcing the first two games for it (League of Legends and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2) and leaving the third unsaid at the time. Now we already know what that third game is.
This just in!
The news came just today with the announcement that Sony Online Entertainment will be partnering with Major League Gaming to bring Planetside 2 to the world of e-sports. As one of the largest online shooters currently running, it certainly has the playerbase to bring a good amount of competitiveness to any formal event.
The Planetside 2 team at SOE will be working with MLG over the coming weeks to devise what they feel would be ideal competitive formats and conditions for teams to operate under to prove their skill via dominance or sheer bloodthirsty frag-count. Given the game’s focus on territorial conquest, it seems likely to end up as some form of timed base assault, with teams alternating defending and attacking.
If you’re interested in competing, be sure to keep your skills sharp and teamwork crisp while we wait to hear more. Planetside 2 is coming to the big leagues!
