That’s right people, the creator’s of Minecraft have officially opened up Scrolls to an open beta. You can now head over to their site and purchase it.
For those unfamiliar, Scrolls is reminiscent of a turn based grid strategy game with a mix of a Magic: The Gathering card game style. You will be able to battle and play online while also having the ability to trade scrolls with others to build the ultimate deck.
The thing that interests me most is the fact that this is a card game not limited by distances or real money. You and a friend only need to put in $20 initially to get the game and then all cards are bought with in-game currency. Then you can play with friends anytime you want, even if you are hundreds of miles apart.
This is not the first game to do something like this though. For example: Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 is out there and offers online play as well. The difference is you are given limited built-in decks. To actually get new cards and decks you have to pay real money.
Scrolls doesn’t require this but asks people to try yet ANOTHER card game. Although I’m not sure if Scrolls will succeed, I remain confident that it will at least turn out to be a well rounded and interesting attempt at bringing something different to the table.
