Last week we got Mortal Kombat X with much fanfare and celebration. Of course this came along with the usual grumblings of on disc DLC and gripes about a somewhat low roster. Fans of the series were equally perplexed to see, even play against characters they could not. All of this was just conjecture until:
“@LazyEyedJ @noobde So Ed are you secretly gonna patch in the NPC’s from story to make them playable? EB: U mean like a “Story Pack” ?
— Ed Boon (@noobde) April 18, 2015
Known for being fairly practical and realistic, it’s assumed by many that Ed Boon dropping a hint like this that it may come to pass. As people have noticed already, many non-playable characters can be “hacked/modded” into the game as playable if you know how. This does however beg the question:
“Why weren’t these characters in the game to begin with?
While it isn’t known how the inner workings of Netherrealm Entertainment decide who makes it in at launch and who doesn’t, it has been suggested by some players that they wanted to shine more light on new characters. Whatever the reason, the current roster of 25 characters seems like more than enough for their storylines and for players to learn and master until the next 4 announced have made their début.
Mortal Kombat X is out and available now for Xbox One/360, PS3/4, PC/Mac and Android.
