Atlus Games had a jammed packed lineup at the Xbox Games Showcase as it featured not one but three games. One of these games was Metaphor: ReFantazio, a new IP from the makers of Persona 5. Developed in the same art style and general layout of the Persona games, Metaphor: ReFantazio will release in 2024 on PC and Xbox Series X|S. Here’s what we know.
Previously hinted at under the name “Project ReFantasy”, rumors of the game first surfaced in 2016 after the creation of a new development team. Very little was released concerning this mysterious project in the subsequent years, seemingly due to the focus on the Persona series. We now know that Project ReFantasy was still being developed and is being released as Metaphor: ReFantazio.
The trailer takes us to a world where the faithful as deemed worthy enough to take the throne. That struggle is the one piece of story we have confirmed. The world has a variety of races, with humans being rare, given what characters say upon meeting one. Metaphor: ReFantazio will feature turn based combat like that in Persona, as well as a similar daily mechanic. It seems like there may be a class system at play in the game as well.
Aside from the release year and platform, no other information was released. Given that 2024 is still six months away, more information is expected to be released. When a specific release date is confirmed, additional platforms announced, or lore is revealed, GameSkinny will be here to keep you in the know.
