On Friday, Square Enix released an extended-cut trailer (see above) for its upcoming title Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. They also said they will be playing shortened clips of the trailer in US theaters this winter.
The game is a remake of the 2011 PSP title released only in Japan. Notable for its real-time, action-command battle system, Type-0 follows a group of students who are fighting against an invading empire.
In the same Square Enix Presents video where the trailer debuted, the game’s director Hajime Tabata hinted that an abriged version of the trailer would play “in American cinemas nationwide in front of the season’s biggest blockbuster films!”
The biggest films this winter are likely to be The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, so it’s a fairly safe assumption that Square Enix will decide to play the trailer during those showings.
Also interesting is the offer linking the purchase of Type-0 to an upcoming demo for Final Fantasy XV, called Episode Duscae. Square Enix has not announced how fans will be able to access the demo, whether as a bundle with Type-0 or separate, but Tabata did mention in the same broadcast that Episode Duscae would have around two hours of content, and possibly upwards of three to four depending on how fans complete the demo.
Square Enix plans to release Final Fantasy Type-0 HD for the PS4 and Xbox One in North America on March 17, 2015, and on March 20, 2015 for the European market.
