Phase 4 of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s beta is happening this weekend for PC and PS3. FFXIV releases later this month and the developers have released a 12-minute video including quite a bit of gameplay, cinematics, and bosses to encounter–it’s all eye candy, people.
The video is in Japanese, but the gist is pretty clear as you’re walked through a quick character creation, introduced to all the classes, and swept into a montage of different cinematic events showing off several characters you’ll meet along the way.
Additionally, you’re shown how to switch between classes or jobs: you can change through a menu selection, so depending on which job you’ve decided to align yourself with (miner, fisherman, crafter, etc.), you’ll be performing those actions and have an alternate set of clothes. Contests could run rampant.
What appear to be bosses look fearsome, some are a little more ornate than others. One could be a redesign of the classic Ifrit that has appeared in essentially every Final Fantasy game.
Finally, there seem to be tons of environments to explore. None look alike and have unique architectures that will be a treat for the eye. What’s more, you’ll be able to have Chocobo mounts to venture everywhere (eventually).
From this trailer, what are you most excited about? FFXIV is on sale August 27.
