It really is happening! Today in a press release, Niantic confirmed that new Pokémon will be coming to Pokémon Go! The teaser announcement only confirms that there will be a big reveal on December 12 regarding the addition of more Pokémon in-game.

Gen 2 starter Pokemon Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile

So, could this be the Gen 2 pokémon we’ve been waiting for? What about the other original Pokémon currently missing from the game? As it stands, there are still five Generation 1 Pokémon unaccounted for. There were six, but recently the shapeshifting pokémon Ditto was released into the wild. The team mascots — Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres — are yet to be found (although someone had already claimed they found one). Mew and Mewtwo are missing as well.

There are 100 Pokémon in Gen 2, including many evolutions for some from the original generation. For example, it introduces Pichu — which evolves into the much loved Pikachu — and Steelix, which is evolved from Onix. Fans of the original anime will also recognize Togepi (one of Misty’s Pokemon) and Marill (Tracy’s Pokemon).

Yesterday, we reported on the fact that someone at Starbucks had leaked information regarding a new update, so this seems to coincide with that news. Perhaps this press release is a response to the leak….?

Either way, we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground when December 12th rolls around. So stick around, and we’ll give you all the latest info on which new Pokemon you can expect to see in Pokemon Go later this month.
