New The Order: 1886 Emerge

New details on the mysterious PS4 game, The Order: 1886.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

One of the most provoking titles I saw at E3 was the reveal of The Order: 1886. Unfortunately, beyond the trailer, we didn’t get any legitimate information about what the experience would be.

Until now!

Today the PlayStation blog revealed an interview with Ready At Dawn’s co-founder Ru Weerasuriya. In the interview Weerasuriya explained that The Order will be a linear, third-person game with shooting elements. He goes on to say that the game will be focused on telling a story; what he called a “filmic experience.”

The trailer for The Order made it clear that the game was set in a steampunk influenced London in the 19th century.  Weerasuriya explains why London is the perfect place for the game’s setting:

It has a very interesting history, particularly at the end of the 19th century during the Industrial Revolution. Because this game is based in the real world, we wanted to feed off that and use some of the events, the people and the stuff that existed in that time to accentuate and bring our IP into a world that is believable.

I, for one, found The Order: 1886 to be one of the most intriguing trailers of E3, but what do you think of what we’ve heard so far? Do you think it will be an interesting new take on a familiar genre, or will it just be another shooting gallery? Sound off in the comments down below, and maybe I’ll take you with me to 19th century London to fight some weird monsters with steampunky type guns!
