This milestone includes all numbers of physical and digital sales for both the PS4 and PC versions. It is also noted that SteamSpy has calculated that there are more than 220,000 users that owned the PC version of NieR: Automata, with an average of 6,000 to 10,000 concurrent players per day. Previously, the game has sold 198,542 copies on PS4 during the first week in Japan, which surpassed the predecessor NieR that reached about 134,000 copies in Japan after 7 months.

This news is unsurprising as NieR: Automata being lauded as one of the best video games in recent years, alongside with other open-world action-adventures such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Horizon: Zero Dawn. Critics and gamers praised the game with its innovating combat gameplay, captivating story and characters, and striking audio and visual designs. The PC version also gained positive reception for its highly polished port, despite having some technical issues during the first days.

NieR: Automata sets its storyline after the fourth ending of NieR, taking place in a post-apocalyptic world during the proxy wars between YoRHa and the invasive android army from a different world.

It released for PS4 in Japan on February 23, and North America March 7. Then later made it’s way to PC for a worldwide audience on March 17.
